Downtown Houston study

6″x8″ Downtown Houston plein air study. SOLD.

This is a little 6″x8″ I did this morning in downtown Houston. I packed up all my paint supplies and got ready to head out, but by that time it was completely overcast so I did a couple of errands. After two errands, the sky was clear again so I headed downtown to look for a spot to paint. Luckily I had put all my supplies in my car.

I had forgotten that on Wednesdays in downtown Houston there are booths set up to sell food in my favorite little park, but I persisted and found a parking space after circling the block three times. I hiked around a bit and settled on this view because it had some tall buildings on either side and there was a nice spot for me to sit. I parked myself on a bus stop bench and started unpacking my supplies.

Downtown was bustling but nobody bothered me, only one bus stopped and the bus driver opened the doors and put in a request for a painting of a tiger. Then he smiled and pulled away. With all the people, buses and cars, it was a more . . . how can I say this . . . more of a high key experience than I normally have when I paint plein air but it was fun. I have a number of studies of downtown Houston planned so I had better get used to all the activity around me when I paint.
