I just love painting buildings. Structures of any kind. I wonder if it’s because a building built by man leaves some kind of imprint on the landscape? To me the story of the human presence must be more interesting than the beauty of a natural setting. I wouldn’t have guessed that, but why else can’t I resist painting buildings? Hmph.
This painting is oil on canvas and is 12″x12″. I am having a show at the Cloister Gallery at Christ Church Cathedral Episcopal Church in September so I’m trying to paint some painting for that show. A couple of months ago I got carried away about bought four 12″x12″ frames from the frame guy that comes through town and now I’m trying to fill them up!
I wonder if it is Joan that you just like verticals and horizontals (as I do myself)? They provide structure and strength to me. You always use such a light touch with the actual painting – nice range of sensitively chosen and mixed colours so it compliments the “framework”.
Looks like a hot, dusty day in the country, Joan. Lovely!
Very nice – beautiful and artistic.
Oh I admire you… I have such trouble with structures… You seem to let them fly of your brush!!
Good luck at your upcoming show!!
Good, soft colors – buildings are a good link to who stood in our place before us. . . they tell us a story of a space. Are you drawn to buildings from a particular time frame, I wonder?
