Grazing

Today I painted a small canvas, 4″x4″, from a photo I took recently. Actually my daughter took it. Right now I think it’s a good exercise for me to paint some small canvases to work with color. Lots of tiny paintings will be better practice for me than a couple of larger ones.

These are two cows grazing in pastures south of Houston. My daughter and I went to my niece’s high school graduation a couple of weeks ago and we drove south along Hwy 288 for an hour to get to the stadium where the graduation ceremony was held. When I saw cows I asked my daughter to take some photos. I’m always on the lookout for cows, but they have to be “good” cows, which means in sunlight and not facing the opposite direction, if you know what I mean. Since she took about 50 photos, I think taking the photos along the way made the trip more fun for her. And there were cows everywhere so she was busy!
