Here is my sketch from Saturday with the Teton Plein Air Painters. Twenty two of us set up in Grand Teton National Park to paint. I brought along a photo of an elk that I had planned to add into my landscape but I enjoyed painting this elk so much that I decided to leave the background very undefined. I didn’t want to distract from the elk. I know, not exactly plein air, but the background and all the colors were influenced by the fall grasses and the blue gray mountains around me.
Among the many tourists that came by to take a look at what I was painting was a lovely couple from Nevada. The very special part of this is that I ran into the same couple the next day at the Art Fair in Jackson. They remembered my painting and asked if it was available. They are camping across a few states and came by our house the next morning on their way to Yellowstone National Park and purchased the painting. What a great conclusion to my outing with the Teton Plein Air Painters! It always makes me so happy when someone likes my work enough to hang it on their wall and live with it. Thank you Sue and Rick.
