Art Competitions

Wednesday I went to the art opening at the Houston Arts Alliance City Hall Exhibition. The painting “House Across the Field” was my painting in the show. It was a lot of fun, I loved talking to the other artists that came and everyone I met that was associated with the Houston Arts Alliance was lovely.

I have recently decided that I need to enter my work in some shows/competitions. I imagine there are as many paths and motivations for an artist as there are different artists. Somehow entering shows and competitions seems like the next logical step for me. I’ve subscribed to ArtCalendar magazine, which has a list of juried shows and competitions. I spend way too much time reading about all the events across the US, but it’s fun. The next show I’m hoping to be in is a juried show at Battery Park in New York City hosted by Art Without Walls.

But the bottom line for me is still to paint for the Glory of God and to bring people joy with my paintings. If I do get into the show in NY, I’ll donate my painting. I called Art Without Walls with some questions about the entry form and ended up learning a lot about the organization. Art Without Walls is a non-profit “dedicated to fostering the arts and improving people’s lives”. Specifically one of the things they do is teach art classes to stroke victims. There is a lot of healing power in art so I feel fortunate to help out in even a small way as I continue to follow the path to serving God in however He calls me to do so.
