This is Quang Ho giving a lecture on the first day of his three day “Light and Shadow” workshop. He shared so much about his philosophy on painting as he did this painting. There was no model for this painting, Quang did this from his imagination.
After the first lecture and lesson Quang did another demo, this time with a model. Here we are on a break, you can see Quang next to his easel.
I had a front row seat so I took some photos during the demo. Here is Quang’s painting in progress. From my angle though, you can’t see the model. Quang paints so loosely, it is wonderful to watch him paint.
After lunch we broke into two rooms to paint two models. There are 25 people in the class so we used two rooms. I was in the room with the same model Quang painted. Above is a shot of my painting in progress and the model behind it.
I took in so much information today that my head is spinning. What I really need to do is sit down and write it all down, even though I did take notes all morning during the two demos. Tomorrow we will focus on still lifes. Actually we will continue to focus on light and shadow and our subject will be still lifes. Quang will demo in the morning and we’ll paint in the afternoon.
Thanks for sharing the inside scoop on this workshop. Look forward to checking back for more notes when your head stops spinning.
Great job on the portrait!
Light and shadow … light and shadow … I can only imagine how your head is spinning! Your workshop painitng is great and very impressive. I have always been told not to expect “framed paintings” during a workshop as too much information clouds your brain. In a few weeks though, you will be rocking!
Ilook forward to your post tomorrow. Thanks for keeping me updated. Honor
Great photos, fascinating to study! Thanks much for posting, Joan!!
Sounds like you, too are having a great time.
Me too. Can’t wait to read what you’ve learned.
Thanks for sharing! I look forward to your collected thoughts on the workshop—when you’ve recovered and have time, of course! 🙂
