More studio remodel and upcoming show

Here is the studio without a ceiling. Also without the built-in cabinets that used to be over there on the left. Now the engineer is able to see what needs to be done structurally to the roof and rafters so he can make his report for the permitting process. We actually go this far a few days ago and have been waiting on the engineer to put together his report and drawings.

I miss having a place to paint right now but it’ll all be worth it when it’s finished. It’s not a bad time to be without a studio since I’m co-chairing an art show at our church and that requires some time on my part. And since I’m also exhibiting some of my work, there are the usual things for me to do before a show:

1. Have postcards printed with my contact info and some of my work to hand out.
2. I’m displaying the Santa portrait I painted last year and selling packages of Santa notecards, so I had to make all those packages, I have 40 packages at $10 each. Labor intensive but I did that while watching a movie on TV so it wasn’t too bad.
3. Make gift certificates. This year I’m offering gift certificates for portraits. I don’t expect to have a big run on those but they’ll be good to have on hand and I’ll be thilled if I sell just one!
4. Need a sign advertising said “gift certificates”. 🙂
5. I have enjoyed painting figures so much lately that I’m going to focus on portraiture for this show. I’m only displaying 3 paintings: 2 sample portraits, which the client has generously agreed to let me borrow for the show, and the Santa portrait. The good news here is I don’t have 15 paintings to varnish and frame for the show. Though I am considering having 2 or 3 small paintings for sale, I don’t want anything to distract from the portraits displayed and the fact that I paint portraits! So I’m not sure if I’ll have any paintings at all for sale.

The show isn’t until next weekend and I will post photos.
