Early self portrait

Since I’ve had more than the usual amount of portrait commissions lately, and I wrote about portrait commissions yesterday, it seemed a good time to post this early self portrait.

I did this when I was 17. Not sure what kind of style you would call that, I didn’t have much in the way of artistic influence when I was 17. Anyway, I was more interested in boys and talking my parents into letting me go to the next rock concert. Or how I could get to the concert after they said no. So I was pretty busy.

I hadn’t seen this little work of art in a couple of decades, I recently found it in a box of artwork I did when I was a kid. I am sure glad my mother saved that box.

  1. Wow, Joan, this is waaay cool. I love the boldness and the graphic elements. You’ve got a special energy in all of your work and this shows that it’s always been there.

Hope you’ll listen to your inner child artist as well as your more mature artist often, because whatever style you choose, it’ll be good.
