Award Ceremony!

A few weeks ago I entered five paintings in the National Society of Artists’ 26th Annual National Juried show and three were accepted. I drove my three accepted paintings an hour to deliver them to the show in a town outside of Houston.

I knew from the prospectus when the judging for awards would take place and the prospectus said “winners would be notified 1 to 2 days after the judging”. Judging was on a Monday, every time the phone rang on Tuesday I thought maybe it was NSA calling with good news. They never called. On Tuesday I got a call from NSA reminding me about the opening on Saturday night and saying they “sure hoped I would be there”. Hmm, nothing about an award. Were they calling all the artists to invite them to the opening? I am very new at entering my paintings in competitions so I wasn’t sure what that phone call meant. I called them back and asked. Did I win something? They said yes, but it’s better to be surprised.

On Saturday evening my husband and I drove an hour to the opening. We actually missed the awards ceremony and arrived just as the last award was being handed out. But I found out immediately afterwards that I won third place! I got a giant white ribbon to put on my painting and a check for $100. It was a lovely evening, the organization that put on the competition did an excellent job. Then we drove an hour home. 🙂
