On our third day visiting my mother in law for the holidays I went back to the nearby cove to paint. It was an overcast day and in the low 50’s that morning. Since it was overcast that meant I wouldn’t have to race against changing sunlight and shadows so I chose a bigger canvas. But, since it was in the 50’s, the low 50’s, I didn’t get too carried away. With all these factors taken into account, I reached into my bag and pulled out an 8″x10″ canvas. Not too big and not too small.
This is my favorite from our 4 days in the hill country. I loved spending the morning in this quiet cove. My husband even brought me some hot tea at one point and I was concentrating so hard that he scared me half to death when he walked up behind me! At another point it started raining lightly but I didn’t notice that either. This is one painting that I would like to paint again but larger.
The light rain eventually turned into dark clouds and rain for the rest of this day and the next day as we drove home. But I was so happy to be able to get out and paint FOUR times during our short stay. I’m trying to learn to paint small and fast and more often. I think that’s the best way for me to improve right now, by just painting more. That sounds a lot like a New Year’s goal doesn’t it?
