Pink Laces

This is a painting of my favorite model. She came over one day and I painted a couple of quick studies of her wearing costumes. When it was time to go she put her own clothes back on and sat down on the studio floor to tie her shoes. I thought she looked so cute that I took some photos. Next time she came over I told her to wear the same thing and she posed for me. I had her sit up on a dresser though, so she would be at eye level as I painted her.

I like the way her green shirt works with the green background. That combination really shouldn’t work, but maybe because they are two different shades of green, it magically works. And I love those black hi-tops with the pink laces! This was practice for me and I’ll use it as a sample of my portraiture. It’s 20″x24″ oil on linen canvas.

I’m working on a portrait commission of a 3 year old boy right now. I had a wonderful day yesterday, I stayed home and painted all day long. I only left the house once to take a walk, and to take my son to school and pick him up, of course. No such luck today though, but hopefully this portrait will be done next week.

  1. This is reall something, Joan. You’re right, the green on green does work. It’s very clever. And that splash of pink in the laces just makes it, adds the contrasting compliment it needs. Wow, I love it!
