Orange Tank – again

Here is the same hill country scene with the orange water tank that I painted a couple of days ago. This time I didn’t follow the photo as closely and I put more of my own interpretation in the painting, mainly with the colors. I just tried to use colors that worked together and gave harmony to the painting.

Thinking of the quote I posted yesterday by Henri Matisse, today I went into this painting with an effort to slow down. I started out thinking about each stroke before laying it down, but darn it, after a while I was just painting automatically. By that I mean I mix a color, put it on the canvas, if it’s not right, mix again and put the new color on the canvas, mix (adjust) again, put down paint on canvas, repeat for 2 hours. But I’m getting better at my goal to look more and paint less. I need a little reminder up on my easel.
