Postcard for the show

Here is the cover of the postcard I’m going to send out letting people know about my show, unless of course you’re reading about it here. Thank you to my readers!

On the back it has the info:
March 1 – April 27, 2008
St. John the Divine Episcopal Church
2450 River Oaks Blvd.

I painted a large sunflower, 30″ x 40″, and the postcard is just a detail from the postcard. I call the painting John 8:12 Sunflower because that verse fromis at the bottom of the painting. (It took me forever to paint the words!) I’ll post the whole painting soon.

The verse is beautiful, here it is:

“I am the light of the world: he who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

The sunflower always turns it’s face toward the sun. The sunflower, following the sun across the sky, represents following the life-giving light of the teachings of Christ. I have a book on sunflowers and I have enjoyed learning more about the history and meaning attached to sunflowers.
