Lagrange house

This is a painting of a house I saw in a small Texas town called Lagrange. We drive past Lagrange on our way back from Austin and last time I got off the highway to explore the town a bit. This beautiful old clapboard house was sitting at the edge of a field just atop a rise and it caught my eye. I could see some of the distant fields behind the house.

The house actually had a grey roof but I thought the painting might look too washed out if I gave the house in my painting a grey roof, so I changed it to the reddish roof you see here. I thought red would work to balance the green of the field since red and green are compliments of each other.

It’s 8″x10″ oil on canvas. I hope you like it.
