Grandma’s tablecloth

Now I’m finished. And I changed the name to “Grandma’s tablecloth”. I need to come up with better names, and while that’s not a great one it’s better than “Pears and a tablecloth”.

This was fun, I’m going to paint some more of these, some smaller sizes which will be easier to sell in shows. Three of my collectors (is that the right term? people who have bought paintings from me before . . .), anyway, three of my previous clients have been asking me for pears. I finally found a fun way to paint pears. This painting is 16″x20″ oil on linen canvas.

  1. Hi Joan, This painting is beautiful and so charming! I think the name is perfect too. I’ve enjoyed seeing the different steps in the creation of this painting.

  2. Joan,
this is exquisite!!… Such subtle colors with lovely purplish grey shadows to complement the pears!!
WONDERFUL… You must be very patient to get that tablecloth pattern in so nicely!!

AND have a terrific time at your workshops!!

  3. Nice finish, Joan. The contrasts are just right. The composition is strong and the perspective on the subject is engaging. This is a very successful painting.

Yes, you’ve got collectors! And, thinking of names for paintings can be very challenging. How ’bout Six of a Pear?! Although, I like “Grandma’s Tablecloth” just as much.

  4. This is a beautiful painting Joan; it has delicacy but does not sacrifice form and the composition is excellent. Hope you are enjoying your workshop.
