Girl with a green and white scarf

Ohhh, this is what I enjoy doing! This is the same model whose painting I started last week but instead of finishing what I started, I started a new painting of just her face. That’s because painting a face is my favorite thing to do. This is 11″x14″ oil on linen canvas. She’s looking down because she’s reading a book.

I took a photo of my canvas after I did the initial drawing and shadow shapes. I see I’ve got the hair blocked in too. I really enjoyed “drawing” with my paintbrush and would love to do some paintings in just one color. Might try that.

An artist friend of mine rents a space at an antique place with two other artists. It’s a square booth with three walls and each artist rents one wall and displays their work. One of the artists has decided not to participate in their little arrangement so that leaves a wall available and my friend asked me if I wanted to rent that wall. I’ve rented an entire booth at that same place in the past and gave it up because the rent was too high, but splitting it three ways might make it worthwhile. On the other hand, the economy is pretty bad right now so this might not be the best business move. But it is fun to drive over to the antique mall with the anticipation that there is a sales receipt in my folder! Even though most of the time there’s not.

  1. This is a lovely portrait. It is quiet and serene. The flesh tones are beautiful.
