Well, today I feel like a portrait artist. I started the day off with a photo shoot of a darling 3 year old boy. The grandmother is my client and friend and this is the third portrait I’ve done for her. The grandmother and her husband came over with the little boy, his mom, and 6 month old baby sister. (And future subject!) We had a blast, the little boy played with one of my son’s toy cars, ate an apple, and generally had a good time and I got some great photos. I’ll contact the client in a week or so and we’ll take a look at the best photos. After that I can start painting the portrait.
This afternoon I had meeting No. 2. I took photos 3 weeks ago of a woman whose husband wants to have her portrait painted. Initially he wanted a head and shoulders so I took photos with that in mind. I have a gorgeous full length gown and during the photo shoot we thought it would be fun to take some photos of the lady in the gown. It’s a vintage Valentino gown that I bought when I volunteered at our church thrift store. I’m not sure why I bought it, I’ve never worn it. Anyway, I printed out some of the shots of her in the gown and they loved them. The head and shoulders portrait has now turned into a full length portrait. She’s an elegant woman and the gown seems to just fit her, so it’ll be a lovely portrait.
Last Saturday I took photos of a client’s two dogs. Next step is to meet with him and his wife and decide on the photos they like and then I’ll paint the dogs. That will probably happen this weekend.
Right now most of my business is coming from portrait commissions. I have a show at a local church this month but when I was over there last weekend, only one painting had sold. That was disappointing, but my commissions are keeping me busy.
It’s definitely a good kind of busy! Please post your commissions. Would love to see them.
