Revelation

On the Fourth of July I headed back down to the little dock on the Llano River and set up facing across the river at dusk. I waited, hoping for a pretty sunset and I got one! The sky was soooo beautiful, all those peaches and purples! This time I painted a little larger, this painting is 8″x10″ oil on canvas.

As soon as the sun went down we shot lots of fireworks off this dock. Then at 9:45 p.m. the town of Kingsland puts on an impressive fireworks show over the water. My husband, son and I watched it from a boat in the water. The fireworks were beautiful but I couldn’t take my eyes off the inky black water. Then after the BIG fireworks were over we sat out on the dock for another 45 minutes and watched as people around the lake shot off more fireworks. As beautiful as the fireworks were, they couldn’t come close to God’s evening sky a few hours beforehand.

My husband took another photo of me as I was painting this evening.

  1. Joan, these little landscapes are just wonderful. They have a freshness and vibrancy that is very hard to achieve even with plein air. Your description of making the pochade box was so enjoyable. I do a bit of diy myself but that was remarkable! Looks like it is working great.
