This is a house on Swan’s Island, one of the islands near Mount Desert Island. We stayed with a dear friend on MDI and he has a motorboat. We loaded up 4 bicyles, his dog, and 6 of us on the motorboat and rode about an hour over to Swan’s Island. It was a fun boat ride, so much fun to ride around and see all the other islands, sailboats, and lobsterboats.
After having a picnic lunch, we walked around a bit and I found this beautiful house perched up on a hill overlooking a harbor on the island. I set up to paint, everyone else rode bikes or hiked around. It was an overcast day and usually when the sun isn’t out I don’t paint. I just decide I’ll wait until a sunny day so I have the strong shadow and light contrast. But this time I decided to paint anyway, even without the shadows and light. I like the way it turned out. I think this painting is more about the design and the color. I love the color of that grass and I felt a little brave putting down that color.
Below is the dock in front of our friend’s house. We’re getting ready to take one of those little dingy’s out to the motorboat, then bring the motorboat to the dock and load up everything. There I am on the dock taking photos . . . . not much help with getting things ready. But I did make lunches. 🙂
Very nice.
Hi Nathaniel, thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Maine is a beautiful place, glad some of my little paintings brought back some memories.

What a fun trip you’re having!!!
Wonderful painting! I’m glad you painted it.
Thanks for sharing your trip – I’m enjoying it!
Heehee, your last comment very funny. It’s ok if you didn’t help with loading the boats, you got a lot of “work” done during your vacay!! What a classic shot! The house painting is wonderful too, you really captured the colors of an overcaste day. Sometimes the grass really glows on those days, lovely!!
