Mighty is the King and a present from the cat

Here is something a little different for me, a huge painting! It’s 30″x40″ oil on canvas. I’ve only painted that large a couple of times and I decided to push myself and paint this one. It just takes more time and paint to cover that much canvas.

I call it “Mighty is the King” because I was in church a couple of Sundays ago and those were some of the words to a song we were singing. The words made me think of how mighty the Lord is and it just fit with the big powerful sky in this painting.

Painting this sky was so much fun that I am planning a couple more large “sky” paintings. Below is a photo of the framed piece on our fireplace mantel, just so you can see how huge this painting is.

I’ve written about our sweet cat Jackie O that I found in a parking lot 8 months ago. Well, this afternoon my husband called me into the kitchen. Then I heard him say “Jackie, no!”. I thought, uh oh, what has Jackie gotten into? I walked into the kitchen and saw what Jackie had brought into the house! Actually I think she must have chased it into the house, we left the kitchen door open. My husband quickly grabbed a broom and shooed it back outside. I grabbed my camera. In case it’s hard to see, it’s a baby possum.

  1. The sky and those clouds! This painting is a wonderful achievement. I agree, the sky, more than anything else proclaims the wonders of Creation!

Now I know what a little possum looks like! The stuff of children’s storybooks!

  2. I love this big sky and those puffy clouds, but honestly Joan, if I would have seen such a big rat like animal in my kitchen , I would have found the nearest table and jumped upon it!!! And you photographed it! Admiration.

  3. Those little creatures are both cute and ugly at the same time…

I love your skyscape….. Cloud scenes are so much more difficult than they seem like they would be. GREAT job!!!
