Yellow House on Little Cranberry Island, ME

We are back from a wonderful two weeks in Maine. We stayed with friends on Mount Desert Island and had such a nice time. One day five of us took the motorboat over to Little Cranberry Island, one of the many small islands near MDI. My daughter and I stayed on the island while the rest of our crew went off in the boat to explore other places.

I found this pretty yellow house a short walk from the dock and set up to paint. What fun I had! My daughter stayed with me to keep me company, she did a little exploring too. Just up the road is a church and a little grocery store so she went for refreshments.
I used my new pochade box for the first time on this trip and it worked out perfectly. And that hat I’m wearing . . . . I don’t have an umbrella so this is the next best thing. I can actually fold it up and stuff it in my bag, there is a kind of wire along the brim of the hat so I can shape it however I want to when I put it on. That hat provides a good amount of shade but I wish it were even bigger.
This little island had a restaurant on the dock which we ate at on our first evening on MDI. We sat outside and had some kind of seafood platter with all kinds of boiled creatures on it! I like some seafood but I’m not that adventurous.
Spending the afternoon painting on this island with my daughter was one of my favorite days from our trip.
On another note: Followers! I didn’t know I had ANY and I was doing some editing on my blog and came across a list of 41 followers! FORTY ONE! How cool is that! Thanks everybody for following my blog!!!

  1. I admire you for managing to paint on a family vacation. I can never do that!!

LOVE that hat as well!! Keep on having a great time… Looking forward to seeing your next painting!

  2. Linda and Diane, thank you both for you compliments on my painting. Yellow is a tricky color, I should probably paint this again just to practice on yellows.

Marian, I wasn’t sure how much I would get to paint on the family vacation but I actually got to paint quite a bit. I had visions of painting quick one hour paintings while the family ate at a restaurant or something, but it didn’t really work like that. They usually had to drop me off someplace for 2-3 hours. But it worked and I didn’t miss that much family time.

Nathaniel, thank you for visiting and commenting! I hope you’ll come back and visit again soon.
    Joan
