I have finally finished this painting. I repainted the hand on your right, I felt like it was too warm so I wiped it off and did it again. My biggest delay on this painting – besides not having a studio to paint in – was the border I had planned to paint along each edge of the painting. I researched borders, then chose one and painstakingly drew it on the canvas. When I started painting it I realized it was detracting from the figure and not helping the painting at all. So I wiped that off and just painted the blue background to the edge of the canvas.
I feel like I’ve already posted this (two posts ago I posted an in-progress shot) but the model asked me to post the finished painting, so here it is! Tomorrow I’ll post more about the studio remodel.
Beautifully done. There is a palpable sense of rest, focus and gentle contemplation.
Best wishes with your studio, too.
Gosh that is gorgeous, Joan…
You should be so proud of this finished painting…. It is truly exquisite… One of a kind and I just don’t know any more superlatives to use on it…
And you’re donating it, right??? WOW… Fortunate group that’s going to get it… is it an auction?? Should go for a good amount!
This is glorious.
Before it leaves your hands, make sure you have the best possible digital image of it, for future reproduction. I predict a need for it.
Melinda and Marian, thank you! What wonderful words you both are using to describe this painting. I am touched that you find this painting so pleasing!
Joan
p.s. I’ll need that good luck for the studio!
Dar, thank you for your comment and welcome! And what a huge compliment you have left me, and how amazing that someone thinks something I painted is “glorious”! wow!
