These are my two children at the Louvre. It’s 8″x10″ oil on canvas, sorry for the glare, it’s still wet. This was after about 2 hours of looking at paintings and the kids were “pretending” to be so bored that they fell asleep, little did they know that 2 hours later they were really going to feel like this. We were in the Ruben’s Room, a huge room full of over 20 very large paintings by Rubens. I thought it was spectacular.
I painted this painting for myself. I had the idea of painting a handful of paintings from our trip to Paris, sort of like a diary of paintings. I took a lot of photos with our family in the photo so I hope to do a few more of these personal diary type paintings.
I am feeling like myself again with respect to painting. Sunday morning I went to church and our rector, Larry Hall, talked about the Olympics during his sermon. Larry talked about the various gifts the Olympic athletes have and how hard they train for that one special day at the Olympics. It takes years of practice, frustration, and pain, in addition to the physical activity, to get to the Olympics. I’m sitting in church thinking, hmm, this sounds a lot like painting. Then Larry reminded us that God gave us all gifts and He wants us to use them and He is pleased when we use them. Those Olympic athletes could not accomplish what they do without God’s grace. And I could not paint what I paint without God’s grace. So I got home and decided I had better get over the pity party I was having because one painting didn’t work out and get to work.
Hi Joan! I smiled when I saw this painting of your kids at the Louvre. My kids looked just like that at LACMA. Can’t wait to see what else you paint from your european travels.
Hi Silvina,

I hope you had a wonderful vacation, looking forward to seeing your paintings.
