Yippee! I’m finished with this portrait. I didn’t change much at all today. When I get to the point where the tiny little changes I’m making don’t add anything to the portrait as a whole, then I stop. No point nit picking and I am trying to stay a little looser and not finish every single detail anyway. Sometimes the trick is knowing when to stop. I’m trying to make the portrait more about an overall impression, not specific eyelashes! This is where painting from a live model helps.
I know a model named Gloria whom I’ve painted in open studios. I’ll call her and see if she’ll come over to my house next week to model for 3 hours. I have the perfect dress for her to wear. Well, there it is. My next portrait is decided.
