Jumping in

Energized by my newfound motivation to paint more portraits (see yesterday’s post), I’ve started a portrait that I’ve wanted to paint for some time. Actually, I would consider it a ‘figurative’. A portrait is meant to capture the spirit of an individual. A figurative is more about the feeling of the painting than it is about a specific individual. It’s hard to make this particular painting about the individual since I don’t know the man I’m painting, I found a photo of him in a magazine and I am intrigued by him.
So, by jumping into this painting I am hoping to get over some of that ‘stage fright’ I usually have before a portrait. I will just let this painting guide me and tell me what kind of painting it’ll be, by that I mean if it’ll be more of a ‘mood’ painting, or more about a man.
