Water towers

I almost forgot about this one. I painted this last week while in the hill country, I went to the ACE Hardware store for more odorless turp and ended up painting this from my car in the parking lot, it’s the view across the highway. I loved the afternoon shadows on the cylindrical water tower, though this probably isn’t the most expected subject matter. The gas station was right there so it’s in the painting, I wiped off a couple of cars that were filling up, they’re tough to paint. I would have liked the cars in my painting, it would have given a human element to this painting. Oh well. I view these all as practice.

  1. WOWEE! LOVE this one. Can’t believe you “forgot” about it… Something about that fabulous red roof -it’s INSTANTLY recognizable and the bright FRESH colors really set it off. And not to go on and on, but the composition is really strong too. Fantastic, Joan!!!

  2. Wow, what nice compliments! I’m trying to put in less detail and I feel I got too detailed here, but with a subject like this it’s hard to leave out too many details. Or is it? . . .
    thank you, Joan
