Art Show report

The St. John the Divine Church Art Show was held this past weekend. Here I am in front of my space. This year (it’s the second year the church had the show) I chose to focus on advertising my portraiture. I had three portrait samples, plus Santa, displayed. I had four small paintings on easels on my table but I didn’t want the paintings to distract from the portraits. I sold one Saturday afternoon during set-up, which was a great start! But didn’t sell any more that evening or Sunday during the show. Oh well, I did sell about 30 packages of notecards and that’s always good.

The show was so much fun, it was a pleasure to get to know some of the other artists who are members of our church. We had 22 artists and the feeling was quite intimate, we even had some harpists playing on Sunday for a while. I think all the artists enjoyed participating in the show and that was important since I co-chaired the event with a friend from church.

I think the exposure was good for my portraiture, many people didn’t know I painted portraits, or even painted at all. I have a new client scheduled for the weekend of November 6th, she is going to bring her grand daughter over for photos and a quick study from life! Now I have a deadline for the studio remodel, two more weeks and it really needs to be done. They are in there now hammering and sawing, as always, it seems. Anyway . . . it was good to talk to people about painting portraits and a few were very interested in commissioning a portrait.
