This is a portrait of Marissa in oil, it’s 22″x28″. (You can click on the image for a close up view.) Her grandmother commissioned me to paint her portrait so I took some good photos and I chose this one to paint for myself. I need a sample portrait for future shows and Marissa is a darling 4 year old and a perfect subject! I am having a show at our church in January and I really wanted to have a sample of my portraiture work hanging at the show. This painting will hang for 2 months along with some of my other paintings.
Below is a close up of Marissa’s face. I find it almost meditative to paint a face. After not painting a face for a while I really enjoyed this. I always start with the hardest part first, which is the face, when that’s done I start to relax, unless there are hands to paint! I was actually dreading painting all those sunflowers but I kept them simple and it was more fun than I thought it would be.
What a beautiful child and gorgeous painting.
Say hello to Houston for me!
Beautifully done…
Lucky family!! So this is YOURS… not the one you painted for the family??? WOW!!!
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for stopping by and thank you for your compliments.
Joan
Hi Marian,
thank you! I painted this to have as a sample for shows, with the clients permission of course. 🙂 It’ll hang at our church for 2 months in the show I’ll have in Jan and Feb, then I’m doing a weekend show (because my memory is too short!)after that so I’ll display it there too. I think it’ll come in handy . . . .
I will need to paint it again for the family, or another pose if they want another pose.
Joan
This is stunning, Joan. You did such a wonderful job on the face and what an adorable face it is!
Thanks for the nice comment on my blog, I am happy to have found you.
