Diane Hoeptner

When I got home from my trip to NYC there was a package waiting for me among my pile of bills. It’s always so much fun to get a package! I had no idea what it was, I wasn’t expecting anything. I opened it up and inside was this beautiful painting from my dear friend Diane Hoeptner, she sent it from Ohio!!! Check out her website, she is a very talented painter. What a wonderful birthday present!

Giving a gift that you take the time to make yourself is so special. I remember when I was a kid my father always wanted me to make him something for his birthday or Christmas, he felt like those were the most precious gifts. I painted little watercolors for my parents, one Christmas I made a chess set by getting the guys at the hardware store to cut up decorative banisters into little short peices and then painted them as kings and queens and pawns. I also made rugs for the floorboard of my dad’s car, they were “hooked”rugs, and while I was in that phase I made him a pillow for his office with the Shell emblem on it since he worked for Shell. I went through a macrame phase too (it was the 70’s, that’s my excuse) and I made my parents all kinds of hanging things out of jute. Anyway, those are only the gifts that come to mind right now, there were surely many more “handcrafted” gifts, and I’m sure my parents loved them all. Long live the fine art of making stuff!

Sounds like a wonderful time in NYC. Thanks for taking the time to post about it, and to post the photos of the paintings…lucky you to have seen them up close!
