Easter card and upcoming show

SOLD

I am working on two art related activities right now. The first is an Easter card that I’m making to send out to friends and family. I bought some lilies and set them up in my studio and spent a wonderful afternoon painting them. It was more fun than I thought it would be, the good thing about painting a still life is that I can take a break whenever I want to and I don’t have to entertain (or feed) a model. Though I love painting models too, that just takes a little more energy. So, about the best way I can imagine to spend a weekday afternoon is to spend it painting in my studio . . . . painting anything.

I e-mailed a jpeg of the Easter lilies image to the printer on Thursday, he’ll have a proof for me to look at on Monday. Hopefully I’ll get the cards on Tuesday and then I can send them out. The inside of the card will say:

Christ is risen.
The Lord has risen indeed.
Alleluia.

The printer shrink wraps my orders and I just love picking up a nice neat shrink wrapped order of brand new notecards. I don’t make any money on the notecards that I sell, but I’ll probably continue making and selling notecards just because I love the feel of the paper and having notecards that I can use, sell and give away. And I think there is a marketing benefit of having 100’s of my notecards “out there”.

The other art related activity around here is getting ready for an up coming show. I will hang my work at St. Lukes United Methodist Church here in Houston on Tuesday morning. So, this meant another trip to the storage unit where I picked up all my paintings and brought them home or to the framer.

This is what our living room looks like now! Thankfully I have an understanding family, we’ll have to practically step over these paintings until Tuesday. I do have to spread them out so I can decide what goes in the show and what doesn’t, and to price them all. This show will hang for a month. I am marking my work fairly low because frankly, I am tired of all the schlepping associated with having so many paintings. I managed to come up with 30 paintings for this show so I expect some to sell, which will be good. I have too many paintings in me and I need to spend my time painting those instead of dragging these around town.

  1. The cards are so lovely! I’ve been wanting to make some cards one of these days, too. But what a wonderful card to get in the mail, truly nothing like it out there.

And good luck with the show!

  2. Hi Karen,
Thank you for your compliments on my card. Cards are so much fun, so many of your paintings would make beautiful cards. I’ll post about the show in a month when it’s over . . .

  3. I love the pic of your paintings happily scattered about your room. Getting ready for a show is just part of the artist life. Wonderful.

Cards are fun. I had some printed up a couple of years ago and have sent out most of them for various reasons. Your Easter card is gorgeous and very special.

  4. The lillies will make beautiful cards! The colors are rich and your brush strokes painterly. Love the background, too. Just lovely!!

    Good luck with your show!

  5. Hi Janelle, I like how you said my paintings are happily scattered about my living room. 🙂 It is fun to see them all scattered about, but now I’m ready for them to be gone (as in sold).

Hi Linda, Thank you for your compliments on my lily painting! I don’t usually send out more than about 3 Easter cards so it’ll be fun to send out a bunch for a change.

  6. Beautiful lily painting! i especially like the energy in the brush strokes.

Thanks, too, for sharing your space with us. I’m so glad you have an understanding family. It makes all of the difference.

    Have a blessed Easter!

  7. Really good painting of the lilies. Love the contrast between the soft painterly edges and the sharper sepals and stamens. Excellent message too! Happy Easter. Blessings to you, Joan.

Silvina, Thank you for your compliment on my painting. Glad you like the card/message too, if I had your address I would send you a card. Blessings to you too,

  9. I can relate. I too “wonder” about the wisdom of some shows and tire of schlepping. You have a much neater house than I do, however. lol. Even with all the frames in your room there–it looks better than my house. It is fun to have this peak into your world. Those are some lovely paintings–I bet you will do well sales-wise. —Your paintings are great!

  10. Hi Celeste, thank you for visiting and commenting! I guess having paintings laying around the house is something most artists can relate to. I will write about how the show goes on my blog and hope for the best. I really don’t want to bring all those paintings back home!
