Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Here is Santa Claus whom I painted a few years ago. This painting was painted from a model, a sweet who grows his beard each year to play Santa at Christmas here in Houston. I hang him each year for the month of December. This year though, he got his very own frame. I’ve framed him before in generic frames and twice I’ve removed the frames because I needed a 16″x20″ frame. But this year I took the canvas to my favorite local framer and we picked out this frame just for the painting. It’s perfect, it has some hints of green to pick up the green background. And this frame will stay with Santa, no more taking this frame off when I need one.

I’ve recently done a little . . . . I hesitate to call it decorating, it’s been so minimal . . . . around the house. I’ve had some walls painted, had new curtains for the dining room made, just some overall refreshing. This temporary interest had me looking at decorating blogs which I find lots of fun, but what I took away from them was all the beautiful photos of interiors. So I decided to try and show my work in a home setting.Well, my home.

When I had our dining room painted, which is the room you see here, I also had the painters put up the panel moulding on each wall. That’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while, I chose a neutral light grey for the walls and the trim everywhere is off white. The two urns were out in the back yard so I brought them in and filled them with paperwhite bulbs. They are cooperating nicely and blooming just in time for Christmas dinner. They sit on a french buffet that is painted and distressed, I bought it at Round Top a couple of months ago. Round Top is an antique fair that happens twice a year in the town of Round Top and surrounding fields about 1 1/2 hours northwest of Houston. It was a lot of fun and I’ll go again in April, assuming my interest in decorating isn’t completely overtaken by painting during that week.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  Luke 2:14
