Owls are beautiful creatures. They’re mysterious, maybe because they’re active mainly at night and therefore hard to spot. The Great Horned Owl, which is the most popular owl in Jackson Hole around our house, comes out mostly at dusk.
There are other kinds of owls around, but this is my favorite. They have a distinctive “who who who” call and sometimes I can hear 3 calling to each other across neighboring fields. They sit atop trees, or on fence posts, and talk to each other in the night. They fly on silent wings.
