Angel painting in progress

First of all, here is a photo of the robe I made for my model to wear. Am I crazy? Yes, I think it’s definite. I thought it would take too much time to find a ready made robe of some sort, and I even made the rounds to the thrift stores in town looking for something I could use, but I didn’t take into account how much time it would take to make an outfit! I used to sew when my daughter was little and I enjoy it . . . to a point. But the robe is finished and I’m happy with it.

Yesterday my model came over and I put her in the robe and we spent an hour figuring out what to do with her hair, what kind of belt to wear, what the background color should be . . . we got all the technical stuff worked out. Not only is my model beautiful, but she’s a sweet girl and fun to work with.

She came over again this morning and modeled for me for 3 hours. I feel very spoiled to have a model all to myself, what a luxury! She’s holding a box which represents a gift. This image will be used for my church’s Alternative Giving Market and the deadline for the artwork is October 15th. Below you can see how far I got in 3 1/2 hours today. I’ll continue posting as I work on this painting. It’s 24″x30″ oil on linen canvas.
