Leopard dress

Whew, this little painting took longer and was harder than I thought it would be. Good thing it’s only 9″x12″. I am still working small while I try to figure out . . . well I’m not sure what I’m trying to figure out. I have a plan in my mind of some figuratives so I guses I’m just working towards that vision.

I plan to paint this same painting larger. I’m glad I didn’t jump into the larger painting without doing this smaller one first, it’s like a study and I think that’s a good idea for me right now. I don’t know how many times I’ve painted a large painting and decided I didn’t like the background color, it’s easier to make those kinds of corrections on smaller canvases. I’m usually not patient enough to do that though.

My husband and son are away on a Boy Scout camp out this weekend so I have the whole weekend to do nothing but paint! Yay! Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that, now I’m committed to post at least one new thing during the weekend.

  2. Enjoy your weekend, Joan. I love when that happens – solitude! I agree that working out a painting in a smaller size is a good idea. It makes painting bigger so much more enjoyable. This painting is wonderful with the girl in the leopard dress. Love it!

  3. You got a lot of detail in your picture for such a small canvas! I actually think it is easier to paint bigger because I have a hard time getting all the details included on a small scale.
