Preview sale

I have all my paintings out of storage in preparation for the show I’m having next week at Christ Church Cathedral Cloisters Gallery next week and this is what my living room looks like. It looks like this about 3 times a year, before each show.

A friend of mine mentioned to me that she was interested in possibly buying one of my paintings and we talked about going over to my storage unit to take a look. But now that I have everything at my house, I called her and invited her to come and preview the paintings before I hang them next week. Now I kinda wish I had mentioned having a “preview sale” to a few more people, but there is alwalys next time. Actually there isn’t a next time right now, I don’t have any shows planned. Darn, I wish I had thought of this “preview sale” earlier.

I was, as usual, worried about how to price my paintings. Many are priced because they were in a show just a few months ago. My friend Diane Hoeptner had a brilliant suggestion, she suggested I just price them by size. I think many artists do this and it sure seems like a good way to make things easier. So that’s what I did. I have my price list ready, the last thing I want to do is make up prices on the spot, that’s not good business practice.
Okay, she’ll be here in 15 minutes, I’ll let you know how it goes . . .

  1. Pricing ones work for sale is so difficult. I always look at what other artists are charging when I see their work hanging in an exhibition, then try to judge where my paintings stand in relation to their quality. At the end of the day, however, I usually plump for wanting to receive at least twice what the framer + the gallery are charging me.
    Doesn’t seem unreasonable.
    I still don’t sell anything.
    Perhaps I am too cheap?

Your paintings framed here look terrific!

  2. love that kittykat–and you look to be a very neat person. Even where there is “chaos” it looks exceptionally tidy. Good luck with your show–I bet your paintings fly off the walls.
