Figure with greys

Here is my model again. Another 14″x18″ oil on canvas. I continue to try and work looser with my brushstrokes, keeping a good overall design and accurate color in mind. The background colors are greyed to keep the focus on the figure.

It seems lately I’ve been only painting figures. I used to paint landscapes and still lifes, partly because I found figures so taxing to paint. But I must be getting used to it, building up my endurance, because that’s all I’m painting and that’s all I want to paint. Or maybe it works the other way, I am painting figures without finding them taxing because that is truly where my heart is.

I have decided not to participate in the big Spring Market next week here in Houston. Mainly because I’m too much of a baby and I don’t want to sit at my booth for the opening evening plus two whole days. I would also have to supply my own walls for my artwork and that is too much schlepping of stuff into the exhibition hall, not to mention that I don’t have portrable walls. I will stay home next week and paint and feel blessed that I’m able to do that!

  1. I think you have a strong talent for portraiture and the most important thing is to paint, paint, paint. The marked will follow, but it’s good to know that your heart is in the right place.

    Keep going!

  2. Joan this portrait is gorgeous! Love your colors, the shadows on the model’s face and neck are fantastic, and I love your brushwork!

    Keep following your heart 🙂
